Marjorie Helen Mosser

Marjorie Helen Mosser, 84, died Friday, June 6, 2014 at her home in Beach, N.D., surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach. A Family and Friends Service will be held at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Beach with Reverend Roger Dierterle officiating. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Beach with Reverend Roger Dieterle officiating. Interment will be held in the Medora Cemetery in Medora following the luncheon at the church. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with the arrangements. Marjorie was born on October 26, 1929 in Beach to Knute K. and Elsie M. Farstveet, the fourth of 10 children. She attended school in Beach and graduated with the Class of 1947 at Beach High School. She attended North Dakota State University at Fargo. She worked at Bublitz Jewelry and the Milldrella Shop in Beach until they moved north of Medora. She was married to Richard Mosser in 1949 at the original stone Lutheran Church in Beach. As newlyweds, they moved to a ranch 35 miles north of Medora along the Little Missouri River. The two bedroom house was powered by a 32-volt power plant which didn’t even run the washing machine. She heated water in copper tubs on the stove for baths and washing clothes. There was no indoor plumbing until 1960. In 1966 the Mosser’s added a ranch north of Beach. The children attended a one-room school house where Marge was secretary-treasurer of the Annear School District. She was also on the board of Pearl Township for many years. When the oldest children graduated from 8th grade, Marge moved to Beach so they could attend high school and commuted to the ranch on weekends and summers. They built a home in Beach in 1973 where she resided until her death. She worked at the Farmers & Merchants Bank in Beach as a teller for 12 years. Marjorie was a member of the Thelen Homemakers Club where her grandmother, Marie Geyer, was a charter member. She belonged to the Cattlewomen and Cowbells of Medora; was First Lutheran Church Parish Treasurer for more than 20 years and a member of the church circles and WELCA. She was a faithful supporter of Badlands Ministries and helped head up the fund drive for the new camp facilities. She loved the Medora Musical and attended several times a season. The Burning Hills Singers visited her and sang at her bedside on June 5. She also loved trips, whether crossing the Little Missouri on sled, horseback or car or traveling with family to Norway on three occasions, to Germany and England with her daughter and Hawaii with her sister, Eleanore. She was an outstanding cook and baker. She hosted many family gatherings at her ranch home along the Little Missouri River and in Beach. She was a gracious lady known for her kindness and generosity. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard of Wibaux County Nursing home; Sons, Douglas (Rosie) Mosser of Beach; Randall (Sue) Mosser of Medora; Daughters, Marilyn (Merle) Koon of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Jayne (Vernon) Harkins of Boulder City, Nev.; Seven grandchildren, Brandy Mosser, Naomi (Kit) Conn, Abbey(Brett) Weiss, Mason and Michael Koon, Chandler and Breanne Harkins.; Four great-grandchildren, Gunnar and Creighton Conn; and Braelin and Elsie Weiss. Five brothers, Alvin (Margie) Farstveet, Beach; Ellef Farstveet, Aurora, Colo.; Gary (Margie) Farstveet, Beach; Rex (Myrna) Farstveet, Dickinson, N.D. Craig Farstveet, Winnemucca, Nev. One sister, Sharon Farstveet Dietz, Beach; Two sisters-in-law Myrna Farstveet, Beach, Connie (John) Hollstein of Wibaux.,Mont.; one brother-in-law, Vernon Ward, Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; Sister, Eleanore Ward; Brothers, Keith Farstveet and Knute Gordon Farstveet.; niece, Cheryl Farstveet and nephew, Scott Ward; sister-in-law, Cheri Farstveet. Memorials may be made in her name to Badlands Ministries, Box 305, Medora, N.D. 58645 or to the First Lutheran Church in Beach, N.D.
