Judith Lydia Curl, 99, born September 26, 1926, of Green Valley, Arizona, formerly of Beach, North Dakota, passed away on Saturday, December 6th, 2025. A Visitation will be held on January 5th, 2026 at Silha Funeral Home in Beach, North Dakota, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on March 27th, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Beach, North Dakota at 10:00 AM with Pastor Liz Franz officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with arrangements. Judith “Judy” Lydia (Roalsvig) Curl, Judith “Judy” Lydia (Roalsvig) Curl, 99, of Green Valley, Arizona, formerly of Beach, North Dakota, passed away on Saturday, December 6th, 2025. Judith was born on September 26, 1926, on the family farm six miles south of Arnegard, North Dakota, to Louis and Clara (Olstad) Roalsvig. She was baptized on October 31, 1926, at Zoar Lutheran Church. Judy began her education at the age of five, graduating from eighth grade in 1939 and later from Arnegard High School in 1943. She was confirmed on April 6, 1941, at Wilmington Lutheran Church in Arnegard. From a young age, her faith was an important part of her life, and she shared her gifts by teaching Sunday School and playing the organ at Zoar Lutheran Church. Judy attended Dickinson State (Teachers) College during 1943–1944. In September of 1944, she began teaching at the Burkey School south of Golva, North Dakota. It was there that she met Gerald Curl. The two were married on December 23, 1945, at Wilmington Lutheran Church in Arnegard. Together, Judy and Gerald made their home on the Curl family farm, where they built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and family. As a devoted farm wife and mother, Judy cooked countless meals during spring work and harvest, helped move equipment from field to field, and could even drive the tandem truck when needed. Judy and Gerald raised six children, each of whom was deeply loved and supported by their mother. She took great pride in her family and remained closely connected to her children throughout her life. Whether through handwritten letters, phone calls, or heartfelt visits, Judy made sure her children always knew they were loved. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. In December 2004, Judy and Gerald moved to Beach, North Dakota. After Gerald’s passing on July 5, 2011, Judy moved to the Golden Valley Manor. In July of 2023, she relocated to Green Valley, Arizona, where her daughter Karen resided. Judy lived a life of service and leadership within her community. She was an active member of the Council on Aging, Senior Citizens, the Election Board, and served as a 4-H leader. She held many leadership roles, including Rainbow Mother Advisor and State Mother Advisor, Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, District Deputy OES, Grand Officer OES, and VFW Auxiliary State President. She also served on the Southwest Health Board and was honored with a nomination as Mother of the Year. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life. Judy was an active member of First Lutheran Church and previously a member of Beach United Community Church. Her faith guided her actions, shaped her kindness, and sustained her through life’s joys and sorrows. Judith enjoyed writing letters, playing the piano, and staying in touch with family and friends —especially her oldest and dearest friend, Angelen. She will be remembered as a kind, loving woman with a gentle spirit, a listening ear, and a welcoming heart. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of sitting down with her for a cup of coffee and meaningful conversation. Judith is survived by her children: James (Joni) Curl of Gainesville, Florida; Karen Kremer of Green Valley, Arizona; Robert (Machelle) Curl of Beach, North Dakota; Rick (Linda) Stoveland of Golva, North Dakota; and daughters-in-law, Sheryl of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Annette of Lincoln, North Dakota. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Clara Roalsvig; her husband, Gerald Curl; her sons, David and Dale Curl; her sisters, Adeline Stoveland and Maxine Erdmann; and her grandsons, Louis John Curl and Matthew Schmaljohn.
