Eloise Faye Cullinan

Eloise Faye Cullinan, age 91 of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Thursday, July 9th, 2026 at her family home. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8pm on Wednesday, July 15th at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Funeral services will be held at the Moose Lodge on Thursday July 16 at 10am in Glendive with Jason Playle officiating. Interment will be in the Cross Country Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Eloise was born in Sidney, Mt. on October 23rd, 1934 to Glen and Beulah (Sturgis) Mitchell. Eloise went first to the Burns Creek School, then to the school in Savage, Mt., completing the 11th grade. She moved to Glendive when she was 17 years old in 1951, where she has resided since. Eloise married John Cullinan on January 11, 1953. The family felt their marriage was a match made in heaven, a perfect union. John and Eloise were married only 3 days before John was deployed overseas for military service. The saying, “Behind every good man is a good woman.” applies to Mom. Mom was instrumental in helping make their dreams and ideas come true. She took care of all the details of the businesses. We would joke about Mom being a walking phone book. Theirs was a true partnership, built on mutual Love and Respect. They shared many dances through the years. They were married for 73 years. From youth on, Eloise believed in hard work, it was in her nature. Mom was raised in a large family, four sisters and seven brothers. They did not have much, but they were raised in a loving home. That love and respect for each other could be seen throughout all of their lives. Her upbringing molded her into the wonderful person she was. At a young age she learned responsibility, how to care for her siblings, how to cook and bake, something we have all enjoyed, especially her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. She had many fond memories of growing up with her 11 brothers and sisters. Mom was always generous with her time, if she saw someone in need, she would stop what she was doing and put them first. She truly had a servant’s heart. Mom was gifted in making do with what she had; money was scarce so she found ways to be creative. Visitors were always welcome for a visit or share a meal at her table. Mom’s hobby was going to auctions and antique stores. She made their home warm, inviting and incorporated her love for antiques in every room. Her decorating skills were impressive. The auctioneer knew it was going to be a good auction when Mom arrived. She had a green thumb and loved having plants in her home. The flower beds had beautiful flowers, twisted cedar, and the most unique rocks in it Eloise will be missed by her husband John, her children and grandchildren, Carolyn (Larry) McCormick, Franktown, CO., Ryan (Megan) McCormick, Jennifer (Anthony) Marion, Marie (Gary) Huber, Glendive, MT., Craig (Kristie) Huber, Stephanie (Mike) Ryan, Chad (Elysia) Huber, Susan (Richard) Legare, Billings MT., Sarah Legare, Megan (Jaime) Ruiz, Angela (Levi) Keele, John (Dana) Cullinan, Glendive, MT., Johnny (Stephanie) Cullinan, Jessie (JD) McDanold, Jim (Nancy) Cullinan, Glendive, MT., Amanda (Chase) Olson, Cari Cullinan, Kathy Deines, Glendive, MT., Lance Deines, Laramie (Katie) Deines. 28 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. Also Surviving Eloise are her brothers, Stanley, Everett (Vi) and Ronald Mitchell, sisters Kathryn Miller, Shirley Bowlds and Harriett Ames; and Sisters-in-law, Vi and Darlene Mitchell. Eloise was preceded in death by her parents; Glen and Beulah (Sturgis) Mitchell, Brothers: Larry, Calvin, Marvin and Ervin and a sister Marilyn Jorgenson. Brother-in-law’s: Nate Miller, Mike Ames and Dan Bowlds; Sisters-in-laws, Barb, Josie, Margie, Dorothy, Donna, and Bev Mitchell. It’s hard to put into words how much we loved our Mother and how important she was to all of us. Mom’s life was a journey filled with Faith and Love. 2 Timothy 4:7, “She fought the good fight. She finished the race. She kept her faith.” Mom loved and cared for us kids, waking us up with a shout of, “Rise and Shine!” When asked which child was her favorite, she was quick to say, “I don’t have favorites.” We love you Mom and will miss your love and your wisdom. As a family, we made it our goal to keep Mom and Dad in their home together as long as possible. A special thank you to all the caregivers, Dr. Potter, Aimee and hospice for all the hours and dedication it took to make that happen. As one of the caregivers said many times, “It’s a labor of Love.” It was a pleasure to care for Mom. Her sense of humor and quick wit made us laugh every day.
