Anna Lowman

Anna Lowman, age 95, of Dickinson, North Dakota, formerly of Sentinel Butte, North Dakota passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach, North Dakota. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 17, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach with Father Dan Berg officiating. Rite of Committal will be held at 4:00 P.M. in the Sentinel Butte Cemetery in Sentinel Butte. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson or the Golden Valley Manor in Beach. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with the arrangements. Anna was born on May 13, 1918 in Belfield, North Dakota, a daughter of George and Mary (Rummel) Metzger. She was raised and educated in Belfield graduating with the class of 1936. She spoke German when she started school and learned English in elementary school. Following high school, Anna attended Christy Beauty School in Fargo, North Dakota. She moved back to Belfield where she worked as a beautician for her sister, Mary and also with her parents in their tailor shop. Anna attended a dance in Medora where she met her future husband, Harold Lowman. They were married on November 7, 1940 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belfield. Together they moved out to the Lowman Family Ranch in the Westerheim Community, northeast of Sentinel Butte. Anna was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Beach, a 4-H leader for thirty-eight years earning her diamond pin, she was on the township election board for several years and the Friendly Neighbors Home Makers Club. She was an avid letter writer and would keep in contact with all of her family. Anna was a hard working ranch wife, a true help mate to her husband. She always raised a large garden and was an avid canner. She received blue ribbons for many years at the county fairs for her homemade bread, canning, crafts and gardening. She was wonderful and generous with her crafts such as knitting and crocheting. Anna was very soft spoken, kind with her words and always had a word of encouragement for everyone. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at the Golden Valley Manor in Beach and to St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson for their loving care to Anna. Anna was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold; parents, George and Mary Metzger; brother, Joe Metzger; sister, Mary Rost; son-in-law, Johnny J. Kalvoda, Jr. and one nephew, Roger Ross. Anna is survived by her daughter, Lila Kalvoda of Mandan , North Dakota; three sons, Jim (Dona) Lowman of Grassy Butte, North Dakota, Charles (Marleen) Lowman of Sidney, Montana, Bill (JoAnn) Lowman of Sentinel Butte; fifteen grand and forty-four great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grandchildren with five on the way; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Metzger of Worland, Wyoming; Anna's fifteen grandchildren are: Charlie Kalvoda, Andy (Anja) Kalvoda, Theresa (Mike) Porter, and Mike Kalvoda (Justin Li); Mike (Shirley) Chuppe, Greg (Laurie) Chuppe, Steve (Deb) Chuppe, Alicia (Perry) Redmond, Talus Lowman, Kale (Keely) Lowman, and Kole Lowman; Channon (Joelean) Lowman, and Melani (Rob) Walton; and Lane (Mellisa) Lowman, and Lusk (Dawn) Lowman. Surviving nieces: Dixie Lowman, and Julie Dickman; and nephews: Rex (Claudia) Lowman, Bob (Nancy) Rost, Wayne Metzger, and David (Cindy) Metzger. .
