Thelma Amsler

Wibaux, Montana: Thelma Elane Amsler, age 84, died on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at her home in Wibaux with her family at her side. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until service time on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Wibaux. A Funeral Service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Wibaux with Pastor Jack Scotson officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October 7, 2013 at the Bainville Cemetery, in Bainville, Montana. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Wibaux has been entrusted with the arrangements. Thelma Elane Amsler was born on September 24, 1929 in Culbertson, Montana the daughter of “Ike” and Annie (Thompson) Goodson. Thelma was the fourth born of what would turn out to be a close knit group of eleven children. She was raised in the country outside of Culbertson and went to country grade schools. Thelma graduated from Culbertson High School with the class of 1947. It was during those years that Thelma met her future husband, “Jerry” Amsler of Bainville. Thelma and Jerry were married on November 18, 1948. After a little over a year living outside Bainville and Culbertson, Jerry took a job with Northern Pacific Railroad and they moved to Glendive, Montana in September of 1950. They raised their three children Earnt “Ed”, Connie and Candice in Glendive. During the time they lived in Glendive, Thelma worked for Mountain Bell. After her children were grown, Thelma spent a short period of time working out of Billings, Montana and traveling back and forth. After retirement, Thelma and Jerry spent much of their time traveling the United States by car. The rest of their time was spent with family, mostly helping to raise and enjoy their seven grandchildren. Many of their trips were to Helena, Montana and Missoula, Montana where they visited their daughters and their families. As the family grew, Thelma continued to spend time with her ten great-grandchildren. Following the death of her husband in 1997, Thelma continued to live in Glendive until June 2006 when she moved to Wibaux, Montana. For a few years after moving to Wibaux, Thelma enjoyed working part time at her son Ed and daughter-in-law, Roberta’s convenience store and visiting with people in the community. Thelma loved cowboy country music and sang in the kitchen while she cooked. She enjoyed getting the Sunday paper and was skilled at completing crossword puzzles. Thelma loved to play Bingo with her daughters. She enjoyed playing card games with her grandchildren and dominoes on holidays. She always liked to go for a drive and look at the country side. She loved any opportunity to take her grandchildren and great-grandchildren out for lunch or dinner and planned for this as often as possible. Thelma was proud of each member of her family and always made time to have a special bond with each of them. She loved getting her family together and never let any of her children or grandchildren get away without a hug. Thelma is preceded in death by her husband “Jerry” Amsler; infant daughter, Elane; great grandson, Michael Morgan; five sisters, Jo, Lucy, Carol, Nettie and Nellie; two brothers, Donnie and Steve and her parents, Annie and Ike. Thelma is survived by three children, Ed and his wife Roberta of Wibaux, Montana, Connie Morgan of Wibaux, Candice Brilz and her husband Rod of Missoula; seven grandchildren, Chris Brilz of Missoula, Jerry Amsler and his wife Jill of Wibaux, Bob Amsler and his wife Crystal of Glendive, Amanda Amsler of Denver, Colorado, Eric Brilz of Missoula, John Morgan and his wife Lisa of Glendive, Mike Morgan of Bettendorf, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren, Alex and Marcus Amsler of Missoula, Elorah and Savanah Amsler of Wibaux, Gwen, Bella and Ginger Brilz of Missoula and Carter and Ava Amsler of Glendive; sisters, Montana “Babe” Finnicum of Culbertson and Effie Rinke of Baldwin City, Kansas; brother, Glenn and his wife Patty Goodson of Mulino, Oregon and countless nieces and nephews with whom she always kept in touch.
