Mary Lawler

Mary Lawler, age 67 of Glendive, Montana passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at the Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana. Visitation will be held 6-8PM Monday, April 6, 2026 at Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Funeral services will be 2PM Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Rite of committal will be in the Dawson County Cemetery. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Mary was born on August 18th, 1958, to William and Catherine (Corbett) McCarthy in Anaheim, California. She was the 10th child of their 12 children. She grew up in California with her parents and siblings. During grade school she attended catholic school and attended catechism classes. After grade school she went to public school for junior high and high school. She graduated from Loara High School; this is where she met her first husband Rob. They married and had two children from this union. After Rob and Mary divorced, Mary went on to meet her second husband Michael Lawler. They fell in love and moved the family to Pocatello, Idaho to be near her family in 1990. Michael and Mary lived together until 1999 when they finally married, just before moving to Helena, Montana. In 2004 they moved down to Reno, Nevada where Mary worked as a bingo caller. After a few years they moved back to Meridian, Idaho to again be closer to family. In 2013 they finally settled in Glendive, Montana to be with their daughter and son and law. Family was the most important thing in her life. She was close to her siblings (not always in distance but in the heart). She could go for years without seeing her siblings and they would get together, and it was as if time did not move forward. Throughout her time, she had many odd and end jobs. None suited her more than her cooking job at the Heritage Assistant Living Home in Glendive. She loved cooking and helping all the tenants throughout her time there. She worked hard and went above and beyond to make the tenants’ time at the Heritage extra special. She made many friends at the Heritage. Cooking and baking were Mary’s favorite hobbies. Her son-in-law Matt always said she was the reason for him getting fat. Mary had a smile and personality that lit up the room. Once you met her you would never forget her. She rarely was in a bad mood. She was special, when she was going through all her health issues, she always found the positives no matter how hard they were to find. If you entered her house as a stranger or someone she had known for 20 years, she would make you feel welcome. She always catered to everyone, especially to Michael, her daughter Katie and her son-in-law Matt. She was a protector; she always tried to shield everyone around her from pain and heart ache. She always put the needs of everyone around her first. She would go without if it meant helping a family member or friend in need. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Dave, Doug, Barry and an infant brother Michael. Sister Sheila, infant sister Mary She is survived by her husband Michael Lawler, her daughter Katie (Matt) Jirsa, son Robert Bonelli, stepson Tim Lawler, stepdaughter Lisa (Jay) Lawler, granddaughter Paige (Gary) Blair, grandson Shane Lawler, great grandchildren, Taven and Salem. Her sisters Barb Bowden, Linda (Tim) Larson, Mo (Jerry) Green, her brothers Rob McCarthy and Ted (Judy) McCarthy, countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
