James H. Schneider

Beach, North Dakota: James “Jim” H. Schneider, age 86, of Beach, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2012 in the care of Wibaux County Nursing Home in Wibaux, Montana. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Beach. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 26, 2012 in the Chapel of the Angels at the Golden Valley Manor in Beach with Reverend Warren Maxted officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Beach Lutheran Cemetery in Beach. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with the arrangements. Jim was born on March 3, 1926 in Wibaux, a son of Henry and Elisabet (Lippert) Schneider. He attended Hay Creek School north of Wibaux through the eighth grade. Jim entered the United States Army in 1945 in Wibaux County and was honorably discharged from military service at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1946. Jim married Leila Simonson on August 28, 1948. They were married for forty years until she preceded him in death in 1988. Jim was later married to Vera (Gordon) Slocomb on November 10, 1989. Jim loved blizzards because he got to drive the CAT. He even got to drive for the Fifth Army during the blizzard of 1948. Jim worked various jobs during his life, they include laboring as a pumper in the oil field, driving heavy equipment for Wibaux and Golden Valley County, farming and driving truck. He also worked for the city of Beach and at the Farmer’s Union. Jim liked to go for weekend drives, and he especially loved the drive up to Sentinel Butte, North Dakota. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, wrestling and baseball. Jim was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. He was a very nice and social person who truly enjoyed visiting with people. Among many other things, Jim enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by many. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Leila Simonson; and a granddaughter, Treasure Schneider. Jim is survived by his wife, Vera (Gordon) Slocomb Schneider of Beach; four sons, James “Buster” A. Schneider of Beach, Jack Schneider of Glendive, Montana, Dennis Schneider of Jamestown, North Dakota, and Dave (Nadine) Schneider of Rapid City, South Dakota; four daughters, Sheryl (Dale) Stansbury of Glendive, Karen (Darrel) Schmeling of Golva, North Dakota, Joanne (Troy) Tescher of Beach, and Joyce Schneider of Minneapolis, Minnesota; step-son, Spence Slocomb of Williston, North Dakota; brother-in-law, Ervin Simonson, of Highmore, South Dakota; sister, Carole Weyer of Wibaux; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mark and April Stansbury and their two children, Matthew and Isaac, Michael Stansbury, Phillip, Paul, Peter, Katie, and Kari Schmeling, Skyler and Brandon Karlson, Colt Schneider, Jessica and Luke Duray and their daughter Lia, Christa and Jordan Tescher, Angela Schneider; step-grandchildren, Matthew and Melody Slocomb and their daughter Natalie, Michael Horley and Sarah Slocomb and their two children Michael and Ava Horley, and Becky and Hannah Slocomb; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved dog “Tipper.” In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wibaux County Nursing Home for their Boiler Fund.
