Helen Ann Ballentine

Helen Ann (Anderson) Ballentine, age 87 of Glendive, Montana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Glendive Medical Center. Celebration of Life will be held on August 12, 2023 at the Fellowship Hall, in the basement of the Glendive Evangelical Church from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Please feel free to come and go as you please to help us celebrate her life. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Helen Ann was born July 6, 1936, in Minot, North Dakota to Herman & Ruby (Whetston) Anderson. She attended school in Miles City, Montana and graduated from Custer County High School in 1954. Helen Ann was united in marriage to Arlen "A.B." Bryce Ballentine on February 21, 1954. Her goal in life was to marry Bryce and be a mom, which was accomplished right away by the birth of their twin girls, Denise & Cherise. They soon added Steve, Cindy and Craig to their household, fulfilling her dream of a family. As the children grew older, she went to work for Reynolds Market and played in many Bridge card game groups. However, her devotion to her family always remained her most important job. She loved attending everything from sports and musical events to birthdays and holiday family gatherings. Helen Ann cared for many family members as they aged over the years, continuing to lovingly guide her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even her great great granddaughter up until the very end, making sure they were all taken care of each and every day. Her little quirky ways of gift giving like hiding money in pop tart wrappers, money in the top of a mustard bottle top, pockets or belt loops of clothing she gave them or any other way she thought up to make them hunt for gift money will be missed at each birthday and holiday. It brought her so much joy to watch them hunt for it. We will also miss all the cutting, taping, writing and rewriting of notes, along with her cardboard and garbage squashing shenanigans. Guess now the garbage man will have a heavier load to carry without all the squashed garbage bags! Her long and late-night phone calls will also be missed. She could talk with any of us and make life better by the time the call ended, whether it was a 5-minute call or a 4-hour call, it just didn’t matter. She will be missed forever by all that knew her. Her devotion to her family will continue to be passed on through the new generations that she touched. We are thankful for all the years that we were able to have this beautiful lady in our lives to guide and form us into the loving, caring people that we are. Our world has been forever changed and a piece of us will always be missing. Helen Ann is survived by her spouse, Arlen “A.B.” Bryce Ballentine of Glendive, MT; their children Denise Borntrager of Billings, MT, Cherise (Clinton) Patterson, Steve (Karen) Ballentine all of Glendive, MT, Craig (Peggy) Ballentine of Minneapolis, MN, and son in law Daniel Roesler of Newhall, IA; her sister Janice (Russell) Dige of Sidney, MT; her grandchildren Kenn (Lauri) Patterson of Billings, MT, Mandie (William) Melton of Glendive, MT, and Kevin (Conny) Patterson of Germany; her great grandchildren Braxton (Morgan) Patterson and Tayla (Cole) Tomlin all of Billings, MT, Kiera, Karina and Korbyn Melton all of Glendive, MT, and Amaia Patterson of Germany; her great great grandchildren Alena Melton of Glendive, MT, Riley Patterson, and Baby Girl Tomlin coming September 2023 both of Billings, MT; her step grandchildren Bobby (Amanda) Hopper, Blake Hopper, Jodie Hopper, and Tessa (Kramer) Kelly; her step great grandchildren Mason, Charley, Finley, Hanna, Sienna, Logan, Breanna, Bobby, Naomi, Keaton, Kylon, Dante’, Garrett, Autum & Brielle. She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Ruby Anderson, siblings Marilyn Viers, George Anderson and Lodine Moffett, and her daughters Cynthia (Cindy) Roesler and baby girl Ballentine.
