Edna Mae Storlie

Edna “Mae” Storlie, age 82, of Glendive, Montana, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Cremation has taken place, and in keeping with her wishes, no formal services will be held. The family is cherishing their time together privately. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Mae was born on October 15, 1943, in Glendive, Montana, to Ivar and Olga Hoiland. She was proud to have been raised on the family farm on Pleasant View, just outside of Glendive—a place that forever held a special spot in her heart. She attended country school and later graduated from Dawson County High School. On December 28, 1961, Mae married the love of her life, Mel Storlie. Together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, love, and family. They welcomed their first child, Cindy, in July 1962, followed by Curt in March 1965, and Lisa in March 1973—born on Curt’s eighth birthday. Curt always joked that he got a black transistor radio and a little sister for his birthday that year. Mae’s greatest joy in life was caring for her family and making their home a warm, welcoming place. She was an exceptional cook and baker, always ensuring no one left her kitchen hungry. Beyond her own children, she shared her nurturing spirit by babysitting for many local families and treasured the lifelong relationships that grew from that time. When her own children were grown, Mae turned her love for feeding others into a career. She became a beloved cook at Lincoln School, where she worked for over 20 years. Her kindness, laughter, and home-style meals brightened the days of countless students and staff. Mae truly loved her work and the people she served, and she was heartbroken when she had to retire after being diagnosed with cancer. Mae faced her 13-year battle with multiple myeloma with remarkable courage and grace. Despite her pain, she rarely complained and continued to offer smiles and kind words to those around her. Two very special friends, Kourtney and Jessie, came into her life through her cancer journey. Their cherished Wednesday visits brought Mae great comfort and joy, and her family is deeply grateful for the love they shared with her. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Ivar and Olga Hoiland, her daughter, Cindy, and her husband Mel. She is survived by her son Curt (Sheila) Storlie of Fort Peck, MT, and their sons Easton of Winnemucca, NV, and Colten of Reno, NV; daughter Lisa (Steve) Kelly of Glendive, MT, and their children Evan of Bozeman, MT, and Kayla (Gunnar) Garpestad of Glendive, MT; and grandson Rory LaDuke of Sidney, MT. Mae was also blessed with four great-grandchildren—Cindy, Jagger, Gracie, and Archie—who brought her endless happiness. She is further survived by her siblings Louise Petersen, Tommy Hoiland, Linda Kaufman, Bonnie (Mike) Rieger, and Brenda Berry, all of Glendive; and by special family friends Bob and Carol Turner and their children, Vicki, David, and Lona, whom she considered part of her extended family. The family suggests memorials be made to the Glendive Community Cancer Fund, an organization that meant a great deal to Mae and provided support during her own journey. In her honor, Mae would encourage others to give when they can, to help others facing their own battles. Mae will be remembered for her generous spirit, her unwavering love for family, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness and care.
