Cecelia B. Ruddy

Cecelia B. Ruddy, age 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Glendive on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Vigil services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, October 14, 2013 in the Chapel of the Silvernale – Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Rite of Committal will be in the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Cecelia was born on October 14, 1918 in Gaylord, North Dakota, a daughter of Majorique and Anna (Sauvageau) Brunelle. She was raised and educated in Mandan, North Dakota graduating from Mandan High School with the class of 1937. Following high school, Cecelia worked for Northern Pacific Railroad as a clerk. She would ride the train from Mandan to Glendive where she would work in the Depot. This is where Cecelia met and later married her best friend Clifford Ruddy on June 5, 1946 and to this union four children were born. As a couple they raised their children together in Glendive. She moved her mother from Mandan to Glendive where she could continue taking care of her. She continued to work for Northern Pacific Railroad until 1958. In 1959 Cecelia was employed with the United States Postal Service where she remained until she retired in 1979. Cecelia was a woman of dignity and grace who never believed in wearing anything other than a dress until 1979. Obtaining a driver’s license was not an interest of hers and she never drove a vehicle in her lifetime. She was very proud of her family and loved taking care of them. Having lived through the depression with her family, Cecelia learned to live frugal something she lived by until the end. Cliff learned to be an avid gardener from his mother - in - law; Anna and Cecelia always canned the goods that he grew. As a young family Cecelia and Cliff would take their children to Yellowstone National Park. Together, she and Cliff made sure to spoil their grandchildren any way they could whether it was taking them on an adventure locally or out of town. The grandchildren made sure to visit grandma everyday and she always made sure that her cookie jar was full for them. She and Cliff took many cruises together something they enjoyed as a couple. Cecelia was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Brotherhood of Railway Clerks and United Postal Workers Union. She was preceded in death by her parents, Majorique and Anna Brunelle; husband, Cliff in 1993; siblings, Victor, Victoria, Archie, Joseph, Tom, Louie, Fred, Art, Robert, and Pat. Survivors include her children, Mary Anne Ruddy of Portland, Oregon, Mike Ruddy of Glendive, Dan (Kris) Ruddy of Glendive and Susie (Les) Frank of Glendive; eight grandchildren, Colleen (Chris) Nichols, Jill Traut, Becky (Glenn) Quinnell, Rachel Ruddy (Greg Anderson), Ryan Ruddy, Derek, Jason and Kelsi Frank; five great-grandchildren; sister - in - laws, Betty Brunelle of Mandan and Viola Ruddy of Billings and numerous nieces and nephews.
