Leslie "Les" Dean Tipton

Leslie "Les" Tipton, age 69 of Glendive, Montana passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023 at this home in Glendive. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 13, 2023 at the First Congregational Church in Glendive with Pastors Steve and Kathy Holmes officiating. Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. On April 6, 1953, Leslie Dean Tipton arrived in this world to keep his parents, Ralph and Ona (Joceyln) Tipton on their toes. Les was one of those kids who over time became a jokester and prankster (who loved to mess with his wife, Gina’s, head). The twinkle in his eye, he almost always held, told us we were in for a treat with his humor. Although he was most well-known for his laugh and being jovial, he was a fierce protector of his family and was always very loving and supportive to everyone. Les’ father was a truck driver, and that resulted in Les and his family moving around a lot growing up. There are multiple schools and towns the family lived in for short periods of time. Les graduated from Dawson County High School in 1972. Les was not afraid to work hard. He worked at everything from gas stations, grocery stores, water truck-driving in the oilfield, freight companies and finally became owner and operator of Tipton Trucking. Les was proud of his reflected hard work. His love for anything with a motor and wheels overrode everything. His red 1967 Plymouth GTX that he once owned was his pride and joy. Oh, the stories that are still told! Another love was motorcycles, especially his 1977 Harley Super Glide. His good friend Gary Schmidt may have said it best,” Les rode his Harley just like John Wayne rode his horse.” He loved racing and always had a need for speed and loudness! He tried his hand at motor crossing, motorcycle drag racing and of course drag racing his 1964 Chevy Impala. On July 11, 1977, he eloped with Virginia (Gina) Huffman in Rapid City, SD on his 77 Harley and married his “Country Girl.” To this union, 2 daughters were born, Tana Danielle and Chandra Dawn. The couple enjoyed going to Sturgis Rally, attended 42 of the 45 years they were married. Every year, the girls visited his in-laws' farm and ranch. Les was a wonderful husband, loving father, and excelled at being Papa. His grandchildren loved to steal every moment they possibly could, and always begged to hear one of his stories from his childhood. Les thoroughly enjoyed telling his stories with great enthusiasm. Les fought a hard, courageous and brave battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He gained his wings on January 2, 2023. He will have a joyous reunion with his parents, Ralph and Ona; his in-laws Virgil and Bessie Huffman, and many other loved family members and friends lost too soon. Les is survived by his wife, Gina; daughters Tana (TJ) Kiel and Chandra (Nathan) Mooer; grandchildren Sinae Kiel (Joey), Noah and Jocey Mooer; sisters Stacey (David) Buckman and Vonice (Brad) Brent; brother Gary (Paige) Tipton; brother-in-law Ted Huffman; Godson Logan Diebel and Goddaughter Missy Anderson; and numerous much-loved nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; best friends Leland Goulet and Jerry Brinster.
