Beverly "Bev" Stortz

Glendive, Montana: Beverly "Bev" Stortz, age 78,was called home by her eternal savior on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at her home in Glendive surrounded by her loving family. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive with Pastor James Hageman officiating. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Bev was born on May 20, 1933 in Glendive, the daughter of Jonas and Erna Helene (Aschwege) Kolberg. She was raised in a close-knit family on their farm near Bloomfield, Montana attending grade school at Seven Mile School and graduating from Dawson County High School with the class of 1950. Following graduation, Bev worked for Waters Style Shop, Montana-Dakota Utilities, Shell Oil in Glendive and Billings, Montana, the Montana State Highway Department, Dawson Community College, and was the founder of the Whistle Stop which she ran for many years. She was also a life-long member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Bev married Joe Zinniel on February 2, 1958, in Glendive where they resided as a couple and were blessed with two daughters. She had a very special and unique bond with her daughters, Lori and Joey, she was their "rock". After Joe's passing, Bev later married Robert "Bob" Stortz in October of 1989 in Glendive where they have lived since. Bev was a very fun and loving person who enjoyed so many things; silly jokes, traveling, reading, cooking, music, gardening and most of all, spending time with all of her family and friends at countless get together's and celebrations. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals, and adored many pets throughout her life; most presently her cat, Smokey Blue. Bev loved the country, she had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature. She had amazing strength, faith in God and love for life; she always set beautiful examples of how to enjoy the little things in life. Bev was very loving and acted as a "mother" to many kids in her lifetime. She was also very close to all her nieces and nephews. Bev loved her children and grandchildren very much, she always recognized and embraced their individual uniqueness. She loved watching them at plays, concerts, recitals and sporting events. Bev made countless special memories of laughter and fun and gave unconditional support to all, spoiling them all with Grandma's special "french toast", "cookies", and wonderful cooking for others, such as side pork for Bob and Gordon. Bev will be terribly missed by her husband, Bob, with whom she shared unwavering love that has been a model for many. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Joe. Survivors include her husband, Bob Stortz of Glendive; daughters, Lori Seti and Joey (Coy) Kline of Butte, Montana; step-children, Laurie (Tim) Gibbs of Fallon, Montana, Ted (Tarena) Stortz of Lindsay, Montana, Lynn (Elton) Stickel of Fallon, Montana, LeAnne (Todd) Dufner of Glendive, Lesli (Troy) Walters of Williston, North Dakota, Lisa (Tim) Quintus of Mandan, North Dakota and Lonni (Shane) Evans of Hope Mills, North Carolina; sisters, Marjorie Ming of Sidney, Montana and Linda (Lindley) Comer of Elwood, Indiana; brother, Gordon (Gert) Kolberg of Glendive; grandchildren, Hannah, Chloe and Colby Kline, Allison (Rick) Wilson, Alicia (Kelly) Hanson, Megan (Zach) Kubesh, Danielle and Bailey Gibbs, Chelsea, Rob, Tate and Ben Stortz, Carly, Lindsay and Lane Stickel, Jeremy, Alexis and Abigail Dufner, Morgen, Aubrey, Ashlyn and McKenna Quintus and Jeanie and Wyatt Evans; great grandchildren, Ealin Dufner and Brynlee Richards; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
