Willis Hall

November 16, 1946 - October 31, 2020

Willis Hall, age 73 of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at his home in Glendive. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with Reverend Larry Schlomer officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Willis Hall was born November 16th, 1946 in Mobridge, South Dakota, the son of Winston and Jo Hall. He graduated from Mobridge Highschool in 1965. During his school years he worked for the Smithsonian Institute along the Missouri River from 1963 to 1966 as a sight digger and as a cook. He then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He began working for Cal Golz Motors (the Volkswagen dealership) in Aberdeen as a mechanic. Little did he know this would begin his love affair for VWs that he would have for the rest of his life. In 1968 he began dating Dorotha Schlomer from Glenham, South Dakota and they would become husband and wife on October 3rd, 1970 in Glenham. With this union their sons, Winston and Andrew were born. In 1976 they moved to Mandan, North Dakota where Willis began working for Century Motors Volkswagen. As a child Willis always had a love for trains. He would always be found playing along the tracks in Mobridge. With this love he began working for the Railroad in 1978. In 1981 the family moved to Glendive, Montana where he would continue working for the Railroad until his retirement in 2006. In 1990 they adopted two more children Paul and Megan. Willis was also a very talented musician and was one of the founding members of the Looker band in Glendive. He was a great family man and the family would often sit on the front steps of their home and sing songs while Willis played his vintage Gibson 12 string guitar. Willis was a very talented craftsman and loved wood working and building things. He hand-built a complete steam locomotive and caboose that are in their yard. Willis would also become very well known for his wonderful Christmas light displays most of which he spent countless hours hand-making. He loved spending his free time in his shop tinkering on anything he could tinker. He loved fixing and restoring old VWs and had extensive knowledge of them. He was always known for his funny humor and always had a witty quip for just about everything and would have everyone laughing. He was a devoted husband and loving father and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston and Jo Hall. Willis is survived by his wife Dorotha (Dee) of Glendive; his children, Winston (Kyndra) Hall of Havre, Montana, Andrew Hall of Glendive, Paul Hall of Glendive, and Megan Hall of Glendive; grandchildren, Gavin Hall, Aitana (Dario) Scotto, Elly Moore, Cayson Hall, and Dominic Hall; sister, Wendy (Tom) Phillips of Omaha, Nebraska; and nieces, Linda and Evelyn.
