Paul Arnold Winhofer

July 25, 1925 - September 4, 2020

Paul A. Winhofer, age 95 of Glendive, Montana passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive. A Rosary service will be at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. Rite of Committal with military honors will be in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Paul was born on July 25, 1925 to Stephen and Theresia (Unger) Winhofer on the family farm near Poplar, Montana. Paul was raised and educated near the family farm, attending the first eight grades at the Lone Ridge Country School and then finishing his education in Richey, Montana where he graduated from Richey High School with the class of 1943. Following his education, Paul entered the United States Army in January of 1944 and he served honorably during WWII in northern France, Rhineland and central Europe. Paul reached the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge in April of 1946 when he returned to eastern Montana. Paul started work at Milne Implement in Glendive before he started his career at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Glendive. He worked there for forty-three years before he retired as the store manager. Paul was united in marriage to Elizabeth Geiger on November 21, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive and to this union three children were born. Paul was known as a “Honey Do” for anyone who needed him, he was always there to lend a helping hand. He took great pride in keeping his home and yard well kept. After retiring, Paul took up painting, which he loved to do. Paul always enjoyed his grandkids and great grandkids as well as his morning routine, going to Subway for coffee with his men’s “Social Group”. In 2012, Paul enjoyed going to Washington D.C. on the first Big Sky Honor Flight to honor WWII Veterans. In 2013 he received the French Foreign Legion Medal of Honor for serving in France during WWII. Paul was on the fire department for thirty-eight years, he was a life member of Elks Lodge #1324, he was also a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W. and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters. Paul is survived by his wife of seventy years, Elizabeth Winhofer of Glendive; his son, Richard (Janet) Winhofer of Billings, Montana; two daughters, Patricia (Joseph) Metz of Willis, Texas and Theresia (Kerwin) LeSueur of Helena, Montana; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
