Leon "Spanky" Gerald Noll

January 5, 1968 - January 13, 2022

Leon “Spanky” Noll, 54 of Golva North Dakota, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2022, at Billings Clinic Hospital surrounded by his family. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 21, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Golva. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Golva Fire Hall with Father Dan Berg officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Beach, North Dakota has been entrusted with the arrangements. Leon was born January 5, 1968, to Gerald and Beverly (Clarin) Noll in Dickinson, ND. Spanky grew up on the family farm southeast of Golva. On August 25, 2001, he married Diane Frederick at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. He worked at Dan Porter Motors in Dickinson for over twenty years as a technician. Spanky later went to work and helped open the service center at Sample Auto Sales in Manning, ND. In 2008, he returned to Golva to raise his family on their farm north of Golva. Spanky lived life the best way he knew how; with laughter, smiles and a smart aleck comment to follow most conversations. He worked hard and anyone that knew him would agree, “There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.” Spanky was passionate about old cars and trucks. He enjoyed riding motorcycle, snowmobile trips and tinkering on anything that moved; whether that be his friend’s vehicle he was fixing or his grandchild's new toy. He learned to hunt and fish, how to care for horses, sheep and God knows how many cats the farm had all because it made his family happy. Spanky was kind and selfless, ready to help anyone any way he could. He loved turning a wrench and figuring out how things worked. He was so proud of his kids and grandkids and he loved to watch over us the best way he knew; you weren’t leaving that farm without a full tank of gas, an oil change, and potentially new tires. Spanky was a good friend that always had a smile on his face. He was fun...a lot of fun. Everyone knew something was up when you saw that goofy grin of his. He seemed to have three main rules in life: 1. Have fun. 2. Don’t let anyone get hurt. 3. We can always fix what we break if needed. There are countless memories with him that will never be forgotten by anyone that knew him. We were proud of him. We were proud to know him and to call him our friend. Leon is survived by his beautiful wife, Diane; his four children, Sheldon [Hannah], Stephan [Sarah], Logan, and Linsey; his six grandchildren, Mischa, Van, Jack, Alice, Thomas, and Roran; his parents, Bev and Jerry Noll; his sister, Laurie [Phil] Hurley; his brother, Danny [JessiKay] Noll; his mother and father-in-law, Gerald and Darlene Frederick; his sisters-in-law, Jan [Jay] Solem, Deb [Emory] Vaagen and his brother-in-law, Todd Frederick; his aunts and uncles, Joyce [Tom] Ray, Rick [Elaine] Noll; Janet Keohane and Judy Clouse; eighteen nieces and nephews; eleven great nieces and nephews and so many people that loved him and were forever changed simply by knowing him. He was truly one of a kind. We will be sad, we will shed tears for our loss but most importantly we will smile more, laugh more and be forever grateful because the person he was will forever impact our lives. Leon is preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Eleanor Clarin and Fred and Teckla Noll; his aunt and godmother, Marilyn Carlson; his uncle, James Clarin and nephew and godson, Nicholas Hurley. The Vigil Service and Mass of Christian Burial will be Live-streamed at: triparishnd.org and on the Tri-Parish Facebook page. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at: www.silhafuneralhomes.com.
