February 3, 1936 - March 11, 2022
June (Stratton) Chapman, 86, of Glendive, MT, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, March 11, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive. Pastor Brenda Frelsi will officiate. Interment will be Friday, March 18, 2022, at 10:30 AM at the Daniels County Cemetery in Scobey, MT. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive and Waller Funeral Home of Scobey are entrusted with arrangements. June was born to Sam and Irene (Wolters) Stratton on February 3, 1936, in Redstone, MT. She was the sixth of ten children. In 1940, the family moved to Opheim, MT, where she attended school. June married Oral “Unzie” Unsworth in 1954 and had four children: Dennis, Dallas, Debbi, and DeeAnn. June and Unzie operated The 201 Club in Scobey until Unzie’s death in 1970. In 1971, June married Lee Rovig and soon moved to Outlook, MT. There, June began her career with the US Postal Service in 1980. In 1981, June and Lee divorced. While continuing her postal career, June transferred to Plentywood, MT and later accepted the position of Postmaster in Redstone. June married Lawrence Chapman of White Sulphur Springs, MT in December 1992. They remained in Redstone until June’s retirement in 2003. June and Lawrence moved ‘south’ to Glendive to be fulltime grandparents and retirees. While Lawrence enjoyed retired life working summer road construction, June relished free time to attend bible study, play cards, and be near two granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Attending her grandchildren’s graduations were always a highlight. Stratton family gatherings were the joy of summer, and sister reunions provided warm memories of laughter and love. Even when the family could not be together, June maintained close ties through email and text messages with many emojis. The notes and photos she received from siblings, kids, and grandkids were always a treasure. June was embraced by the Glendive community through volunteering at the Glendive Medical Center and the Attic. She enjoyed rounds of cards at the Senior Center. Her dear friends and close neighbors regularly challenged her at Bridge, Pinochle, and Skip-Bo. June enjoyed her potted flowers, Saturday coffee gatherings, and weekly morning prayer group. An all-encompassing part of June’s life was her faith in Christ. She was a constant presence each Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church and a dedicated member of the Zion Prayer Circle. June was preceded in death by her parents, husband Unzie, brothers Clarence, Freddy, Glen, and sister Jean. June is survived by her husband Lawrence; brothers Sandy, Louie (Phyllis), and Britt (Sharon) Stratton; sisters Virginia ‘Gigi’ Hellickson and Elaine (Les) Byers; sons Dennis (Linda), and Dallas Unsworth; daughters Debbi (Steve) Kaul, DeeAnn (Michael) Clarington; daughter Lucinda (Bill) Dixon and son Larry (Lori) Chapman; grandchildren Daci Overby, Darcell (Jeff) Unterseher, Lauren Pickering-Unsworth, Jay (Amy) Unsworth, Madison Unsworth, Damon Fleming, Sydney Fleming, and Shelbi Kaul; grandchildren Brandon Dixon, Rex, Sloan, and Lane Chapman; grandchildren Ian (Jess) Anderson, Jeffrey (Bridget) Anderson, and Curtis Anderson; grandchildren Jelani, Nailah, and Kijani Clarington; great-grandchildren Bode and Barrett Unterseher; great-grandchildren Olive, August, Eli, and Ava Anderson; and numerous nephews and nieces. In June’s memory, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, a Veterans service organization, or a charity of choice. Colorful attire is encouraged at the services.
