Dorothy Mae Mathison

Dorothy Mae Mathison, age 94, of Glendive, Montana, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at St. Alexius Health Center in Bismarck, North Dakota. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive with Pastor Avis Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Dorothy was born on January 15, 1924 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the fifth of six children to Clifford Eugene and Genevieve Hattie (Kershner) Snyder. Dorothy was raised and educated in Marshalltown. After graduation, Dorothy moved to Portland, Oregon to assist in the war efforts. She worked for the Swan Island Shipyard and while there she met her future husband, Clifford Kenneth Mathison, Sr. They were later united in marriage on August 16, 1943 in Vancouver, Clark City, Washington. Their first child, Lana Jo Ann was born in Portland and when Lana was 10 months old, and after the war, they moved to Glendive. Two more children completed their family: Clifford "Kip" Kenneth Mathison and Connie Mae Mathison. She worked for the Production Credit Association (PCA) for many years. Dorothy was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was very active in her church and did a lot of volunteer work at the Glendive Medical Center. As a cancer survivor she was also active in the Relay for Life. She also loved doing ceramics and crocheting. She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years Clifford Mathison in 1993; one daughter, Connie Mae (Mathison) Hauff in June of 2000; one granddaughter, Erikka (Mathison) Pierce in 2005; three sisters; and one brother. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Lana Jo Ann (John) Sanders of Bismarck; a son, Clifford "Kip" Kenneth (Mary Ann) Mathison of Worland, Wyoming; 8 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 step-great grandchild; 10 great-great grandchildren; 2 step-great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Bettie Beeler of Grinnell, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
