Donald Moffett

March 15, 1929 - September 16, 2019

Donald W. Moffett, age 90 died on September 16, at the Glendive Medical Center with his family by his side. Always a morning person Don passed away at sunrise, time to do his final chores. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Francis Schreiber officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don's life. Don was born in Sidney, Montana on March 15, 1929, to parents Retta (Cooley) and Charles Ira Moffett. Retta and Charles brought Don to their homestead farm on Bad Route Creek, where Don joined his sister, Marge age 3. Don’s mom, Retta died in December 1932 from pneumonia. Don graduated from Amo School in 1942 at the age of 12. He then attended high school in Glendive. He graduated from Dawson County High School in 1946 and then from Dawson County Junior College in 1948. While attending high school Don worked 21 hours a week for his room and board at the Northern Pacific Hospital. Don started as a Chore boy then worked as an orderly and ambulance driver. He continued living and working at the hospital maintaining the boilers while attending college. In 1948, Don moved back to the homestead on Bad Route Creek. For several years he farmed and worked for Northern Pacific in the round house. Don married Irene Schneider on June 13, 1959. They had 3 children; Charles, LauraLee and Carol. In 1984, Don received an award of merit for outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation as well as outstanding farmer of the year from Dawson County Conservation. Don also received a 30 year service award from the Dawson Rural Fire Department for operating a satellite fire truck. Don and Irene celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 13, 2019 at their home on the farm. Don was a loving husband, caring father, generous friend and neighbor and caretaker of animals. Don is survived by his wife Irene and his children; Charles Moffett of Glendive, LauraLee (Larry) Myran of Glendive, Carol (Ed) Nielsen of Lindsay, Step-grandchildren; Joe (Caroline), Nick (Loni) and Matt Myran, and numerous brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Ira and Retta Moffett and his sister Marjorie (Frank) Pettinato. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.
